

Mr. Skelton was born July 21, 1936 in Jonesboro, GA, son of the late Maurice White Skelton and Daisy Leon Stanfield Skelton. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after over 20 years of service. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation, where he worked as an enforcement officer. He was a member of Teaver Road Baptist Church, the Moose Club, and the Peace Officers Association of Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Linda W. Skelton of LaGrange; three daughters, Debra (Neil) Byrd of Holly Springs, NC, Tina (Keith) Hall of Dallas, and Pam (Billie) Wright of Tallapoosa; three sisters, Elizabeth ‘Toots’ Garner and Karen (Lamar) Smith, all of Williamson, and Cheryl (Ray) Pitts of Zebulon; three brothers, Robert (Jereil) Skelton of Williamson, Charles (Ann) Skelton of Barnesville, and Gary (Paulette) Skelton of Griffin; grandchildren, Samantha, Corey, Christy, Ashley, Zachary and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Ava Everett, Ella Everett and Alex Byrd.
The family will gather on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 1 p.m. to receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel and a Celebration of Life will begin at 2 p.m. with Dr. Michael Reeves and Dr. Charles Skelton officiating. Military honors will follow the memorial service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Abbott N. Skelton.
