Thomas Francis Murphy

On Friday, March 6, 2020, Thomas (Tom) F. Murphy Jr. passed away in San Diego at age 81. Born July 20, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Thomas and Margaret Murphy, the oldest of four children. He graduated from Loyola Academy, received his degree from Loyola University, Chicago, and worked for both the Chicago Probation Department and 27 years for San Diego Probation Department. Tom married Sharon Engeln and for 53 years they lived in San Diego, raised four children and was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren. Tom was a devoted Catholic, loved California, and enjoyed photography, collecting cameras, poker, Villanova college basketball and Padres baseball. He was known for his quick, deep sense of humor, intuitive understanding of people, quiet kindness, loyal friendship and compassionate spirit. Funeral service will be held July 20, 2020 at 9AM St Therese Parish, 6400 St Therese Way, San Diego, 92120, and he will be laid to rest at Mission San Luis Rey Cemetery, Oceanside, CA. Family and friends, those that loved and knew him, will miss him.
