Rupert Graves, M.D., was born in Post Oak, Texas March 8, 1918. He passed away October 24, 2014 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 96 under the care of Brookdale Medical Facility and Hospice Compassus. He was drafted while in medical school and served for five years in the U.S. Third Army under General George Patton as a medic during W.W.II. Dr. Graves practiced for more than fifty years in San Diego, California where he was a 50+ member of the San Diego Co. Medical Society, the American Medical Association, The Board of the San Diego ZOO, President and Chairman of the Board of The San Miguel Hospital Association and was a Physician who flew with the San Diego Chargers to games in the 1970’s. The San Miguel Hospital Association was a group of doctors who built a hospital in early 1950 and continued to operate until it was sold in December of 1992. He and the other doctors used the funds from the sale of the hospital to establish medical student scholarships in perpetuity at the University of California, San Diego and the Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona California. These Universities will have significant funding for many years for medical student scholarships provided by the San Miguel Hospital Association of which Dr. Graves had an instrumental role in developing. Rupert was preceded in death by his wife, Ileta. Funeral and Graveside services will be handled by Erickson Anderson Mortuary, La Mesa, California. Burial will take place at Singing Hills Memorial Park in El Cajon, California. October 30, 2:30pm. Dr. Graves was much loved and will be missed by family, friends and all whose lives he touched.
