Richard Mazzola, 69, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, unexpectedly passed on Monday, May 1, 2017 from cancer. Richard grew up in Arizona and Nevada with his parents David and Margaret Mazzola. Richard attended Arcadia High School, in Arcadia, California, and graduated from San Diego State University with a bachelor in art. Richard was drafted by the Army and spent two years in the service. In 1976, Richard married Camille Hodnick. They had two boys, Richard and Nikolas. While always fond of the ocean, Richard also loved the mountains. Richard and Camille spent 35 years in Woodland Park, Colorado. Richard was a manager of several car dealerships in Colorado and California, before becoming a wholesaler. After retirement, Richard and Camille spent part of the year in Akumal, Mexico, where Richard had a successful art gallery for 10 years. After a grandchild was born, Richard and Camille moved to La Mesa, California to spend time with their family. Here, Richard continued developing his art, producing work of a more personal nature. Richard will always be remembered – for his exceptional personality, for his unfiltered commentary, for his humor, for his art – and for being a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Richard is survived by his wife Camille, his sons, Richard and Nikolas, his brother David Mazzola, his sister Mary Ann Huber, his grandchildren, Isaac and Everett, and his loyal dog, Spartacus. Come celebrate his life with family and friends on May 20th at 10am. Richard loved bright, vibrant colors. Please consider attending with colorful attire.
