Regina Marie (Stadler) Peck was born on January 14, 1941, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The eldest of three daughters, Regina moved to San Diego, CA with her parents, Herbert and Mary Stadler, and sisters Brenda and Jo-Ann in 1955. She always told her family how sad she was to leave the east coast which held so many childhood memories centered around precious time with friends, and her grandparents, whom she adored. Regina and her family settled in Lemon Grove where Regina attended Mt Miguel High School, where she was active on her high school newspaper. Upon graduation in 1958, Regina attended and graduated from San Diego State University with a BA degree in Journalism. Regina took the world by storm and was always independent, ambitious and a gifted writer, having written for local newspapers right after college. Regina went on to become a probation officer for San Diego County and soon met the love of her life, William (Bill) G. Peck, a retired naval officer and fellow probation officer. Bill and Regina could not be better suited for one another. They married in 1967 and went on to have 3 daughters who were the center of their lives. Regina went on to earn her Master’s degree in Counseling, became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and worked in social services for many years, retiring from San Diego City Schools as a school counselor in 2003. Regina won many accolades throughout her career including San Diego City Schools’ Counselor of the Year in 1997.
After retirement, Regina was able to focus on hobbies such as crafting and photography as well as her love for travel. To say that Bill and Regina loved to travel is a major understatement. They were extremely well-established travelers, traveling all over Europe and the western hemisphere. One of their favorite places was Hawaii where they would relax for weeks at a time.
Regina was a doting grandmother to her granddaughter, Olivia Caroline, and shared her love of museums, restaurants, and travel with her. Sadly, Bill passed away in June 2016 at age 91, after a brief illness. Regina deeply mourned his loss but filled her time with family, travel and lunch dates with her friends and sisters whom she adored. Regina was charismatic, loving, always color coordinated and a force of nature in so many ways. She was an amazing mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family. A friend to all, if you met her, you would remember her! Regina loved her cats Oscar and Felix and was a devoted cat parent to many cats over the years. Regina was extremely proud of her Italian heritage and was a talented cook, loved Christmas and was a true light for so many.
Regina passed away on June 9, 2022, age 81, after a brief battle with cancer. Her family is deeply saddened by her loss. Regina is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, and parents Herbert Stadler and Mary (Ursillo) Stadler. Regina is survived by her daughters Lisa Peck, Regina Peck-Sobolewski (Dennis), Sarah Sherlock (Brian), granddaughter Olivia Sobolewski, and two sisters, Brenda Canaris and Jo-Ann Jacques, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family will host a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Regina’s name to East County Animal Rescue, www.eastcountyanimalrescue.org
