Joe was born June 25, 1971 to William and Lee Schuffert at St. Bernardine Hospital in San Bernardino, CA. He moved to San Diego in 1977. Joe lived on Howell Drive, in La Mesa, CA since 1978. He attended Northmont Elementary 1979-1982 and played baseball for Fletcher Hills Little League 9-12 and AYSO Soccer and Pony League. In Little League, the president would introduce all the kids and when it came to Joe he always commended him as having the best baseball swing. Joe attended Parkway Junior High and Grossmont High School in La Mesa. He enjoyed numerous sports and hobbies like playing softball, golf, frisbee golf and bowling. Joe was extremely competitive. In bowling league in 1991 he bowled a 4 game total of 830, which was an average of 2007. His league average about 200. Joe would play in tournaments in Orange County.
Joe became a father March 18, 1992 with the birth of his son, Jaycob. Joe raised him as a single parent with the help of his father, William. Joe loved watching Jaycob play Little League baseball and soccer like he used to do. Joe loved driving around his car, 1984 Black Honda Prelude. He took great care of it.
Joe worked from 1997-2001 as an estimator at Sunset Auto and Griswold Auto and Courier and for First American Title Co. Joe loved going to Padre Games and Charger games. He loved music so much. His favorite band was Slayer, but loved all kinds of music from Iron Maiden to Whitney Houston, NWA; 2Pac to Elton John and The Eagles, and everything between. Joe was a dedicated sports fan with being a diehard Padres, Chargers and Aztecs fanatic and a big racing fan. He immersed himself in movies and TV shows where he and his son spent quality time every single night with each other watching thousands of movies and TV. Joe was an incredible father who struggled with severe pain but never failed to put it away for his son to love and support him anyway he could. Joe's favorite moments were his many times spent with his many friends, throughout his life. And enjoying time with his father and son and dog at home. With Friends, Joe met actor Mark Wahlberg at Tower Records and partied with him. Another memorable occasion was going up to Los Angeles for Thanksgiving and Xmas to see his Godfather Louie (Joe's dad's best friend). There he visited and played Trivial Pursuant with Actor Cheech Marin (Louie's cousin) in Cheech's home in Malibu.
He enjoyed playing poker at the Casino, once with Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates, and another with Boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao.
While playing softball in 2001, while Joe was diving for a ball, he landed weird and hurt his back. The pain would never go away. The doctor said to have surgery. In August of 2002, Joe had back surgery and again 2 more times. His back was never the same. The doctors however couldn't do any more for him, so he became disabled and never got any better. Joe had to go to a cane and then to crutches and eventually to a wheelchair.
Joe was a spiritual man who always tried to keep a smile on his face and enjoy the small things. And against much adversity, he liked the life he led and deserved so much more.
In December 2022, Joe developed CHF, and his spinal injury rendered him mostly paralyzed. On June 14, 2024 Joe developed an infection from not being able to move and his heart couldn't take much more.
Joe is survived by his son, Jaycob; Father, William; Mother, Lee; and various half brothers and sisters.
