Born on October first, 1930, Joseph was a cherished husband, father and grandfather.
He worked for the City of San Diego’s Street division for 36 years, retiring when he was just 58 years old.
When he wasn't working, Joseph was a proud Mr. Fix-it. He always said that he could fix anything except a broken heart. He liked being out and about and would ride the trolley or a bus somewhere, walk for 10 miles and ride the bus or trolley back. Sometimes he would get on a bus and ride it till the end of its route. He was still independent and active, walking every day. Even on the day he suffered his stroke, he had been out several times, walking his neighborhood.
Joseph is survived by his daughters, Peggie Mazzeppi (Marty Shewbert), and Leah Diana, and son Perry Mazzeppi. 4 grandchildren; Michael Kotsala (Hannah), Heather Lazaro (Erwin), Allison Kotsala and Brandon Kirohn (Emily); and 8 great grandchildren. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary, his brother Dominic Mazzeppi, 2 daughters, Pamela Kotsala (Mike), Penny Kirohn (Charlie), a granddaughter, Nicole Kirohn, and a grandson, Kyle Mazzeppi.
A committal service for Joseph will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 10 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, California 92102.
