With great sorrow we would like to announce the passing of our mother, Ida Margaret Stetler (Smith), also known as Margie, She lost her fight against Cancer on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 6:44 am, in Lemon Grove, CA.. She will finally be reunited with our dad, Wilson Daniel Stetler (September 21, 1936 – February 7, 1990)
She was born Ida Margaret Smith, in Springfield Missouri on December 21, 1937, to Ray Boyd and Mary Elizabeth Smith (Keys). She has two younger sisters, Carol Ray (deceased) and Mary Ellen Bennett, residing in Houston, Ohio with her husband Alan Bennett.
In 1956 she married Wilson Daniel Stetler, they met while attending Alhambra High School in Martinez California. She has four children, Katherine Denise Stetler, Kim Diane Castagnola, Karl Dennis Stetler, Kenneth Dwayne Stetler and She has 8 grandchildren, Eric Parenteau, Jeff & Jessika Stetler (twins), Ashley Henry, Lanie Brooks, Jennifer Ficke (Castagnola), Valerie Hardman (Castagnola), Julie Maloy (Castagnola) and Laura Lynn. She also has 9 Great-Grand children and one Great-Great Grandson due in February 2022. They are all wondering who will be making Mom’s infamous “No-Bake Cookies” this year for Christmas.
My father’s U.S. Navy enlistment travels took us to Hawaii and then we settled in San Diego in 1966 until he retired in 1977. After retirement, my parents bought a house in Lemon Grove, CA where she remained until her passing. She was a very caring mother that raised us and then began working for the Navy Exchange at 32nd street in San Diego. In 1976, she began working as a bartender at 32nd Street Bowling Alley until she retired around 2018. She was a mere 5’1” tall, (5’2 ½” if you ask her) and yet all of the Sailors were scared to death of her.
I would like to thank Sharp Hospital and their wonderful staff and especially Sharp Hospice for always being just a phone call away.
She requested not to have a service, she asked us just to let everyone know the best way we can. Thank you so much for all your heartfelt blessings, it is very comforting at this time.
