Gloria was born on May 9, 1928, in Lafayette, Colorado to parents Ysidro and Amada Ramirez. She was the 10th child of 14 children. The family moved to Guanajuato, Mexico when she was 2 years old. As a young adult, she returned to the United States and raised her young children as a single Mother.
Gloria’s strength came from her Catholic faith, which was her guiding force throughout struggles in her life. The biggest struggle was the loss of her son Rigoberto Marquez, during the Vietnam war.
She adored her growing family and loved her family gatherings and vacations. Gloria enjoyed working at an elementary school and later at Kaiser hospital, where she retired. During her retirement years she traveled the world thanks to her daughter Melba, as far as Russia, Central America, and Mediterranean.
She also enjoyed gardening, embroidery, casinos, mariachi music, and showing her love by cooking. She had a passion for life and loved to socialize, tell stories, and make people laugh.
Gloria is survived by 7 children, Esperanza Valdes (German), Agustin Marquez, Rogelio Marquez (Anita), Armando Marquez (Rose), Jack Salazar, Irma Salazar, Melba Salazar, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and sister Linda Michel.
