Florence May Arrindell, was born May 23, 1928, in St. John’s, Antigua, to Harry and Iris Arrindell. She was given the name Ruby, by a midwife at birth, and the name followed her, her entire life. Ruby was the first of three children born to this union. Ruby attended school and grew up in St. John’s, Antigua.
As a young woman, in the mid 1950’s, she made her first voyage to the United States (New York City), aboard the Queen Mary. In New York City she worked in factories and department stores.
Shortly after returning to St. John’s she relocated to London, England, with her mother, sister (Heather) and brother (Dennis).
While living in London, she met and married Mack Brown, a serviceman in the United States Air Force.
In 1963, Ruby and Maxine were to join Mack in the United States however, the U.S Embassy was closed, due to the assassination of JFK.
This delayed their passports being issued, and the move to the United States for several months.
Eventually, the family was reunited and settled in Boise, Idaho, where Michael was born.
After several moves due to military service the family settled in San Diego, California.
In early 1970, Ruby United with the Calvary Baptist church where she was baptized by the late Pastor S.M. Lockridge.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist church for over 50 years. Ruby attended services regularly until her health began to decline in 2015.
Ruby was afforded the luxury of being a housewife and a stay at home mom. While she did not work outside of the home she provided a wonderful home life for her family. She was known for her great cooking skills and baking. Her signature cakes were Pound Cake, Whip Cream Cake, and German Chocolate Cake (all made from scratch). She fed everybody that walked through her door.
Ruby loved Bingo and played at various locations throughout the City for several years. Ruby was also a slots fan, but she was not a fan of loosing. The penny machines were not her friend when they did not pay!
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Iris Arrindell. Ironically she passed on the same day as her mother, 48 years later, her husband, Mack Brown, and grandson Darion Williamson.
On February 20, 2022, Ruby was called from labor to eternal rest, where she joined her husband and heart beat, Mack.
