Elizabeth “Betty” Anderson, 99, died in La Mesa, California on January 31, 2023. She was born December 29, 1923 in Seattle, Washington and was one of four children. She graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1941, and attended Seattle University for a year before beginning full time work. During WWII she joined the Civil Aeronautics Authority and became a radio aircraft communicator serving at various stations in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Her love of airplanes led her to become a private pilot after the war, and she met her husband during this period. She married Albin “Gene” Anderson in 1951, and she continued to work as a tower communicator until just before the birth of her first child. A few years later, her husband’s work took the family on moves all over the United States and two tours in Australia. After her children were older, she went back to work in the insurance industry, then began a second career as an enrolled agent tax preparer, which she continued until well into her eighties. Wherever she lived, she was always deeply involved in her church ministries, and her faith was a deep part of her life that gave her great comfort and purpose.
Betty is survived by her three children: Alan Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona; Janet Anderson of San Diego, California; and Paul Anderson of Fox Island, Washington. She also considered herself further blessed to be the grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three.
After a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace in El Cajon, California, she will be laid to rest next to her husband at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego, California
