Chief Petty Officer, Retired, Edward F Fahey Jr, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family at his La Mesa, CA home on 20 August, 2021. Edward, known by family members as “Bud” and fondly by the young, as “Daddy Chief. He was a decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam War, Cuban Crisis, in the Beach Jumper Unit (United States Navy Tactical Cover & Deception Unit), among other special operations. In addition to his military career, he spent another 15 years in the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, working under Sheriff John Duffy.
Chief Petty Officer Fahey was born on 31 August, 1929 in Westfield, MA to Edward Sr & Helen (Ryan) Fahey. When he was a little over 17 years old, Edward decided he wanted to join the Navy. Edward would go on to serve in the Vietnam War with his closest high school buddy Caroll Bunker.
In his early Naval career, Edward was stationed in Londonderry, Ireland, and over a weekend pass, Edward went to London to attend a USO dance where he met and fell for Eira (Pat) Summers, whom he married in Ireland in 1951. Together they had 3 children, Edward (Wee Mic), Colleen, and Gerald. Edward Jr had 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Steven, Shannon, Jocelyn, Tara, Erica, Courtney and Cassandra and 20 great grandchildren. Edward was proceeded in death by his wife, Eira P, son Gerald, and daughter Teresa.
There will be a Military Funeral with Honors held at Fort Rosecrans, Point Loma, CA on 25 August, 2021, 1:30 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge in El Cajon, 1400 E Washington Ave, El Cajon (2:30-4:00) .
The family welcomes any and all stories, photos, and memories that Edward’s friends and colleagues would like to offer. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his name made to the “Warrior Foundation”, San Diego.
