Cliff attended Franklin K. Lane High School in New York and Syracuse University. The computer world fascinated him early on. His computer career started with police work out of Criminal Courts in New York City. There he got to work with them. Cliff attended every workshop, conference, and class he could find and then left police work. Cliff was a very early expert in the technology field. He has an Associate Degree in Engineering and Management through Dayton University. He came to California to work for Rocketdyne but quickly was hired by NCR Corporation where he spent the next 26 years until retirement. Cliff also spent 23 years teaching computer technology to adults through Regional Occupational Programs. He returned to police work shortly after retirement by volunteering when the Sheriff’s department found itself in need of computer help. When La Mesa started its RSVP program, Cliff joined their second class and continued to work until his second retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Walter Herbert, Harry Arthur, his sister Frances Eva (Raines) Munson, half-sister Margaret Catherine (Nash) Jurgensen, and his son Clifford Thomas Raines, Jr.
Surviving in addition to his wife Kay (Snyder) Raines, are his daughters Colleen Watson and her husband Kevin of Peoria, AZ, Sharon Rennick and her husband Randal of La Mesa, CA, Robin Raines-Bond and her husband Wayne of Heber City, UT, seven grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Clifford will be held Friday, September 10, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Ave., La Mesa, CA 91942.
Interment will be at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Holgate, Ohio
Those who wish to remember Clifford in a special way may make gifts in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of their choice.
