Barbara was born to parents Helen and Paul Gower in Quincy, Illinois. She spent almost her entire life in La Mesa moving here in 1936. She met her future husband Edward Sparks in 1948 and married him in 1949. He was her one and only. She had 5 children Ken [Pam], Melanie [Bill], Paula [Hugh], Wes [Jane] and Suzanna. She had 13 grandkids and many greats. She worked at Montgomery Ward’s for 35 years. After retiring she loved walking the neighborhood. She loved dogs, cats, chickens, stars and her kids and not necessarily in that order. If you saw her walking she always had a kind word to say. We always got the “you know so and so who live in such and such house?” Not always knowing we always listened at least once. She was the neighborhood watch before there was that title. She passed away peacefully Sept. 8th with the light of a full Harvest moon. Sadly her sister Susan Farnsworth passed away 6 days before Barbara. I’m sure a lot of people will miss seeing her on the Crockett Street venture. We love you Mom. Walk on!!!
