A native of Arizona, Allen spent his formative years and served honorably in the United States Air Force. He then moved to the San Diego area where he worked and continued his education, receiving his Master’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego State University. After a stint working with the Welfare Department, Allen spent over twenty years with San Diego City Schools as a school psychologist and counselor.
Allen Miller grew up in a family filled with love and studied classical piano and became proficient in playing all kinds of music. He was the last surviving sibling. His brother Russ (Angie) Murphy; Sister Ann (Roy) Miller; Kathryn (Rick) Tucker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allen loved to travel in the school summer vacation times to visit family in Texas, Montana, New Jersey and/or explore new places.
Rick introduced Allen to Masonry and he became a life member Mason of both San Diego Lodge #35 F.&A.M. and Point Loma Lodge #620 F.&A.M., where he served as Worshipful Master two times, Organist many times, and was elected to be Secretary, where he served for many more years. Allen added to his fraternal family of brothers and sisters when he joined the Point Loma Chapter (now Sunset Chapter) of the Order of the Eastern Star of California where he served several times as Worthy Patron, and he served the Grand Chapter of California as the Grand Representative of Arizona in California for two years. Allen served as Worthy Patron of Sunset Chapter for 2024. Although health issues prevented him from attending meetings, he wrote many inspirational messages focusing on loving others and God’s Plan to be presented at meetings. His writing skills never faded in his 90 plus years and his Masonic education articles will continue to resonate to his Masonic brothers.
Allen is survived by his wife of twenty-seven and a half years, Juanell; sons: Thomas (Melissa) Bottroff; Michael Bottroff; Jeremy (Rachel) Bottroff; Joseph (Rachel) Einertson. He was “GrandPop” to Teresa (Cody) Williams; Margaret and Ivy Bottroff; and Beau David Einertson; and Great-GrandPop to Erick, Ryan and Christopher Allen Williams.
Grandson Beau, on learning of Allen’s passing, told his father, “I’m so happy GrandPop is an Angel.’ May Beau’s Faith live in all of us.
