Linda Jo Marsh was born July 16, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA to Morton Elize Lee Marsh & Velma Hortance June Centell. Linda was raised by her grandmother Ida Hortance Thornburgh Centell and stepfather Ted Conway in Okmulgee, OK and attended Okmulgee High School, class of 1960. Linda married Johnnie Edward Doss October 5, 1959, and divorced April 18, 1975. Together they had three children, Linda Joann Doss, Johnnie Edward Doss, Jr., and Eric Duane Doss. On December 9, 1976, Linda married Cole Jay Nixon in Stillwater, OK. That day Cole’s daughter Krista became Linda’s daughter as well.
While living in Stillwater, Linda attended classes at Oklahoma State University. Linda & Cole moved to Cameron, MO in January 1978 where they resided on Shoal Valley Farm which had been in Cole’s family since the 1850s.
After moving to Missouri, Linda joined First Christian Church of Cameron MO and became a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Major Molly Chapter of Hamilton, MO and served in many chapter offices. She was a Charter Member of Tri Rivers Good Sam’s Camping Club for over 20 years.
Linda attended Missouri Western State University to study computer science and had a computer shop until 2008.
In 2014, Linda & Cole moved to Snow to Sun retirement resort in Weslaco, TX where she & Cole enjoyed many community activities especially dances where they would “Waltz Across Texas”.
Linda lived a full life and loved so many things. She was multifaceted and multitalented. She had a true gift for finding things, especially people, morels, and a good bargain.
She was a passionate genealogist for over 40 years, researching family trees including her own back to the year 1066 and finding many missing heirs.
Linda loved to travel throughout the states and around the world traveling extensively through Europe. She was a proud anglophile as a descendant of Lord Thornbury and visited Thornbury Castle in England. She was a tea connoisseur, collected teapots, and was very proud of her china collection. Linda loved Coca-Cola, chocolate and pecans. She was a deer hunter, a slalom water skier, taught Eric to shoot hoops and could punt a football over the house.
Linda was very mechanically inclined and could fix just about anything from sewing machines to small appliances to cars and was always prepared with a toolkit.
Linda had a green thumb and excelled at floral arranging and gardening, particularly growing tomatoes and pecan trees on Shoal Valley Farm. She loved African violets.
Linda baked and decorated elegant wedding cakes including her own and daughter Joann's.
Giving gifts was Linda’s love language and she was known for her generosity and willingness to help.
More than anything, Linda loved Cole and she loved her babies.
Linda is preceded in death by husband Cole Jay Nixon, her parents Morton Elize Lee Marsh & Velma Hortance June Centell, son Johnnie Edward Doss, Jr., brother Monte Lee Marsh, and grandson Cody Joseph Holland.
Linda is survived by children Linda Joann Doss Atchity & husband Gregory, Shawnee, KS, Eric Duane Doss, Weslaco, TX, Krista Kathleen Nixon King & husband Michael, of Amarillo, TX. Grandchildren, Thomas Cole Atchity, Erica Jo Atchity, Loren Kathleen Holland. Great grandchildren, Cody Case Holland, Cassidy Kenley Benton. Also survived by Bryan Marsh & Family, Jodie Marsh & Family and Garron Marsh. Linda’s surviving siblings are brother Rocky Joe Conway of Okmulgee, OK, Sisters Joyce Fulton of Cary¸ NC, Barbara Osborne, Tulsa, OK, and Kathy Marsh, and Centell and Thornburgh Cousins.
Linda will be buried in Packard Cemetery, Cameron, MO.
A Celebration of Life with be held at the home of her daughter Joann Atchity in Shawnee KS at 2pm on Saturday August 12, 2023.
A reception will be held in Okmulgee Oklahoma on Saturday August 19th at 4pm at a location to be announced
