Kathryn Ann Avent Williams, born on May 20th, 1954, in Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2024, at the age of 70. Raised in Midland, Kathy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1972. She went on to earn her degree in Child Development from Texas Tech University in May 1976, embarking on a lifelong journey dedicated to nurturing young minds.
Kathy was a beloved teacher for 37 years, spending 20 of those years teaching 1st grade, where she found immense joy in helping children learn to read. Her love for education and her students was evident in every lesson she taught.
In her retirement, Kathy found pleasure in tending to her roses, butterflies, and vegetable garden. Her green thumb was matched only by her love for the Lord and the Bible, which were constants in her life.
Kathryn was a devoted mother to her daughters, Elizabeth Grace Williams-West and Anne Marie Williams Soto, and a cherished mother-in-law to Manuel Soto. She found great joy in her role as a grandmother to her six grandchildren: Nicolas Soto, Oliver Soto, Emilia Soto, Katie West, Beth West, and Rebekah West. They were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Kathryn's legacy of love, faith, and education will be remembered by all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, devotion, and trust in the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kathy’s memory to the Harlingen Literacy Center, continuing her passion for education and reading.
