Johnny is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alicia Cavazos Gomez, his children Ashley(Luis) Correa, J. Cristian Gomez, Anali Gomez and granddaughters Azura Rae and Athena Roslynn Correa of Harlingen, Texas. He is also survived by his parents Frank and Maria Cumpian, siblings Estela Cavazos of Santa Rosa, Texas, Gloria Gomez and Norma Champion of Harlingen, Texas and Frankie Jr(Maggie) Cumpian of Santa Rosa, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sisters Nilda Sanchez and Yolanda Ruiz.
Johnny was born on January 7, 1964, in Houston, Texas to Juan and Maria Gomez. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1982. He married Alicia, his high school sweetheart on April 6, 1985. Johnny worked as a claims adjuster for various insurance companies.
His children remember him as a faithful and loyal servant to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he encouraged them to do the same.
Johnny was passionate about being a son, husband, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather. His love, advice and counsel will be treasured by his family and all those who knew him. He considered his greatest accomplishment in life to be his service to his church, Templo Bethel CLADIC Santa Rosa, Texas. He served as a deacon and church secretary for 35 years. He was known for his barbecue pit skills for both brisket and chicken fund-raisers. He also filled other roles of leadership as he was called upon to do. He was a witty and multi-talented individual who loved the Lord and used every opportunity to further God’s kingdom. He was the family MacGyver and was called upon by many family members to fix literally anything and he did it with all his heart. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Public visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, and prayer service at 7:00 p.m at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas. The funeral service will be Friday, June 30. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. to be followed by chapel service at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Armando Vargas, Fabian Lopez, Samuel Silguero III, Jonathan Ruiz, Marco Gonzalez Brandon Champion, Luis Correa, and Carlos Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Juan Castillo, Frank Cumpian Jr., Manuel Barrera and Joel Garcia. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Johnny’s life. Condolences can be sent to {URL}.
