Jose C. Bocanegra went to be with the Lord, on October 22, 2022 at the age of 75, in Harlingen, Texas. Jose (Joe) is preceded in death by his father Zenón S. Bocanegra, his mother, Juanita R. Bocanegra, and brother Agustin (Gus) R. Bocanegra.
Joe enlisted in the United States Marines Corp, serving proudly until 1971 when he was honorably discharged due to his father’s death. He returned to Port Isabel to help his mother care for his 9 younger siblings. He loved nature and capturing the little things of daily life in pictures. He was a hard worker and a sociable person. He was an Engineer by trade but dabbled in everything.
He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe. He is also survived by his son, Jose C. Bocanegra Jr.; daughters, Sabrina Samantha Bocanegra (Anthony Gonzales) and Raquel Bocanegra; his grandchildren, Kevin L Sabrowskie II and Derrick Sabrowskie. He is also survived by his brother, Silverio Z. Bocanegra; sisters, Apolonia Bocanegra-Severson, Blanca E. Bocanegra, Juanita Shihadeh (Mohamed A. Shihadeh), Gabriella Bocanegra, Estefana Newton (Zailo Newton), Sandra Almaraz (Sergio A. Almaraz), and S. Virginia Friez (Joseph T. Friez), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
To honor Jose’s life, a visitation will be held Friday, October 28, 2022 from 2 pm to 9 pm, with the rosary at 7 pm the same day at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Memorial Park in La Feria,Texas. A chapel service will occur on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 10 am followed by the military graveside rites performed at the burial at 11:00 AM.
