Genoveva Cantu Silva, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, at the age of 88. She leaves behind an indelible legacy of love and kindness, forever imprinted on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born on January 3, 1935, in a small town in Raymondville, TX, Genoveva led a life defined by an unwavering devotion to her family. As a grandmother, she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting her loved ones, bringing love and comfort to countless lives. Whether it was a family gathering, or a Sunday afternoon coffee watching mass, she had the unique ability to create an atmosphere of love and unity.
While Genoveva’s role as a grandmother held immeasurable significance, her impact extended far beyond her immediate family. Her generosity and beautiful smile were an inspiration to all, reminding us of the power of selflessness. In her free time, Genoveva enjoyed growing flowers in her garden and watching the hummingbirds outside her window. Her favorite pastime was watching her novelas, trying her luck with lottery scratch-off tickets and playing chalupa (loteria) every Friday night.
Genoveva will be lovingly remembered by her children, Margarita Castañeda (Augustin), Hermerejildo Hernandez (Lupita), María Teresa Leal (Jose), Diana Simental, Consuelo De La Rosa (Rigomar), Angelita Cazares (Jose Luis), Yolanda Silva, Erasmo Silva, Raquel S. Ramon (Dinael) Catarina Silva (Alfredo), Antonia Silva (Antonio), 43 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Maria de Jesus Rivera, Apolinar Cantú, María Cardona, Elodia Slosson and a wide circle of friends and extended family who were blessed to have shared in her life.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband (Catarino Silva) daughter (San Juanita Gonzalez) brothers (Petronilo Cantú Jr.) (Domingo Cantú) (Pedro Cantú) and sisters (Oralia Saenz) (Isabel Villegas).
Forever in our hearts, Genoveva’s legacy will endure, reminding us to live life with love, kindness, and a generous spirit.
A visitation for Genoveva will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 1PM to 9PM with a rosary at 7PM. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11AM at St. Margaret Ann Catholic Church, Military Highway 281, Santa Maria, TX following will be a burial at Restlawn Memorial Park, 14166 US-83 BUS, La Feria, Texas 78559.
