Fred Oscar Lopez, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024. Born in San Benito, Texas, Fred was a longtime resident of the Rio Grande Valley and will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and deep devotion to family and community.
Fred was married to his beloved wife, Mary, for 19 years, and together they shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. He retired after 22 years of dedicated service in the administration at Brownsville Independent School District, where his commitment to the students and staff left a lasting impact.
In his free time, Fred enjoyed dancing, playing card games, and chalupa. He also had a passion for traveling, exploring new places and creating memories with those he loved. Fred's easygoing nature and infectious smile will be missed by all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his brothers Robert Lopez (Isabel), Mario Lopez and Armando Lopez; his nephews Michael J. Mancillas (Ruby), Robert J. Lopez (Sandy), his step-children Janie Alfaro (Gumecindo), Clemente Garza Jr. (Debbie), Michael Garza (Sabrina), Veronica Garcia (Miguel), his grandchildren Clem Gabriel Garza, Jazzmine Garcia, Michael Garza Jr., Allison Garza, Melanie Garcia, Alejandro Garcia, Amber Nicole Alfaro, Jared Garza, his great-grandchildren Clem Jr., Joaquin, Santiago, Aubree, Addalynn and Arianna.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Mary A. Lopez; his father Robert G. Lopez and his mother Jose G. Lopez.
A memorial service for Fred will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 26873 N. White Ranch Road, La Feria, Texas 78559.
