“Kahanu”
Kahanu, 58, passed away at home on April 17, 2023. He was born in Lihu’e on December 16, 1964 and grew up working at his family’s business on the Wailua River.
He is survived by his parents, Walter “Freckles” and Harriet Mokihana Smith and brothers Kamika and Kaleo (Stacie) along with nephews Trey and Tyler and niece Kira. He was also hanai by the Wong, Poai and Aki families.
Kahanu was a talented musician, a creative lei maker,, graceful hula dancer and loved to play Bingo at the Plaza Hotel. He is loved by friends from around the globe and his presence will be missed. He has shared his Aloha with many people, leaving a lasting impression of the gentle giant that he was.
