of Lawai, Kauai, Hawaii passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022 at the age of 101 years.
Born March 23,1921 on Oahu, he graduated from Roosevelt High School, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Earl attended and graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York; and the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree.
His career in the Sugar Industry began at Waialua Sugar on Oahu as Factory Engineer and followed up on Kauai at McBryde Sugar Company as Factory Superintendent. He also consulted in the production and manufacturing of sugar on Maui, Sudan, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic.
Prior to his Sugar Plantation Engineer work, he served in the United States Coast Guard and the Navy Reserve. He was a WWII & Korean War Veteran.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Clara Smith; Wife: Ruth Smith; Brother: Quentin Smith.
Earl is survived by his sons and daughter; Stephen (Margaret) Smith, Lawai, Kauai; Barry (Claudette) Smith, Hawi, Hawaii Island; Laurie Smith-Wishard, Lawai, Kauai; & David (Sylvia) Smith, Lawai, Kauai; 3 grandchildren; Chelsea Smith-Wishard (Vinny Boiser Jr.), Saian Smith, Eamon Smith and 2 great-grandsons; Vyka Boiser and Legend Boiser.
He will be cremated and interred with his wife, Ruth, at Punchbowl Memorial Cemetery on a future date. A Celebration of Life is also expected be held on Kauai at a future date; Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, Koloa, Hawaii.
