Valerie Mae Helton was born February 17, 1965 to Phyllis Bowling, in Logansport, Indiana. She spent her childhood and adult life in Kokomo. She was one of four siblings. She graduated from Haworth High School. In her early years, she became a caregiver for many children and gained employment as a laundry aide at Sycamore Village. Valerie believed in the Lord and had a heart of servitude. She served as an usher at New Hope Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Pastor Elliott Faison. Although she was loyal and faithful to all her positions, her fondest and most rewarding role was being a mother to her children.
Valerie enjoyed and cherished the simple things in life. Her home was her safe haven and place of peace. She had God, her children and grandchildren. That is what made her whole world.
God said it was time for Valerie to rest on April 8, 2023 at the age of 58. Surviving are her daughters, Jennifer and Jessica Bowling, step-son Tyrece Yard, the father of her children Gregory Helton, brothers, Dean Robinson and Matthew Bowling, aunts Beverly "Jane" Maddox, and Linda Colbert (Roger), and uncle Willis "Pete" Robertson (Sandra), grandchildren Jamarius Collier, Whitnee Yard, and Layla Jackson and a host of cousins.
Val was preceded in death by her mother Phyllis Bowling, brother Mark Robinson, grandparents Willis E. Robertson, Sr. and Elsie Mae Robertson, aunt Edith "Ann" Causey, and uncles Jack Robertson and Joseph Maddox.
A celebration of life for Valerie will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Refreshing Springs Church, 3112 Easy St, Kokomo, IN 46902.
