Sara Katherine Smith, 71, Kokomo, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, after a valiant fight against cancer. She was born June 2, 1942, in Kokomo, to Clarence E. and Mary D. (Coady) Raab. On November 24, 1982, she married George R. Smith.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1960 and was co-owner of Raab Shoe Store in Kokomo. She touched the world as an artist, her passion since youth, and the world is a brighter place because of her. She was Mimi to her grandchildren, and they were her number one priority. She was a member of the Kokomo Art Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Grotto Ladies Auxiliary, and Oakbrook Church.
She leaves behind her companion in her fight and loving husband, George, along with three sons, John D. (Greta) Lytle, Michael D. (June) Lytle, and Greg A. (Lisa) Smith; two daughters, Tamara Ann (Jack) Reynolds, and Amy Michelle (John) Heath; twelve grandchildren, Ryan Stevenson, Ashley Tweed, Amber Smith, Ralph Rodriquez, Matthew Smith, Kayla Smith, Katie Allen, Emily Lytle, Dustin Lytle, Justin Lytle, Elizabeth Lytle, and Ethan Lytle; twelve great-grandchildren, and two more on the way; two brothers, C. Edward (Sharon) Raab, and John (Peggy) Raab; and two sisters, Betty (Carl) Durst, and Emily Judge.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Enochs officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kokomo Art Association.
