Ruthie Evelyn Cameron-Koontz, Kokomo, a gift of God to all who met her, fell asleep in Christ at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Aug 4, 2017. She was born July 28 to her parents, Lester Reed and Beatrice Ferguson in Sedalia, Missouri, as a special child with a heart of gold.
Ruthie was a lifetime member and a mother at Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ, Kokomo, Indiana. She served as special hospitality host and was on the decorations committee for many years at Grace Memorial Church of God In Christ, Kokomo. There was none that could surpass her skill and style at interior decorating, which was unmatched in beauty and design. She was founder and owner of Arrive In Style Limousine Service, which provided outstanding and exceptional limousine service to the community for 17 years.
She retired in August 1992 from Delco Electronics GM, where she was head of the elite Delco Dolly’s and undoubtedly was the highest heel wearer. She will be remembered for her compassion, smile, and dedicated love because when she loved “she loved hard.” Her greatest passions in life were her Lord and Savior and her family, whom she loved with her whole heart.
She was a beautiful and wonderful woman who touched and was instrumental in so many lives. There was none like her in the sharing of love, and to all who met her, she stayed in their hearts as a genuine and unique person.
Ruthie is survived by her children, Semerial Cameron, Ricardo Van (Amy) Cameron, both of Kokomo; sister, Kathryn Y. Kent, New Jersey; grandchildren, Reomey T. Northington, Ricardo Van Cameron II, Trevon A. Johnson, Dreyton N. Cameron; great-grandchildren, Ryenn Evelyn Cameron, Carter Kenneth Cameron, Yvonne (James) Destin, John ( Casey) Kent III; and goddaughter, Abigail Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Edna Lee Gatewood; son, Norman Edward Cameron; daughter, Evelyn Franceen Cameron; and brother-in-law John Kent.
Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ, 3112 Easy St., Kokomo, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and the celebration beginning at 11 a.m. Pastor A. Wendell Brown Jr. shall officiate the celebration. Special entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
