This led him to pursue engineering degrees at Michigan Technology and Purdue University. While working at Delco Electrics, he also taught evening classes at Indiana University Kokomo (IUK) and Ivy Tech. Following his tenure at Delco Electronics, Rodney retired in 1993 to pursue many joys of life.
He then spent time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Other joys included his love for rockets, space, UFO stories, watercolor painting, string art, making whirligigs from old CD-ROM disks, feeding and watching birds in the backyard, and making new friends. When he could, he would slip in a story or two about his childhood alongside his silly jokes. Additionally, he was a long-time member of the Kokomo Computer Club.
