In 1954 Bob enlisted with the National Guard and served just over 2 years. He then married his high school sweetheart, Delores Dian, in March of 1957. Together they raised five wonderful children. Bob worked hard, sometimes at two jobs, to provide for his family. In 1999, Bob retired from Chrysler after 36 years of employment. Throughout his life, he spent much of his time gardening; Bob loved flowers of all varieties and he enjoyed the fresh vegetables from his garden. He also loved animals, and always had a dog in the house. He taught all of his children basic vehicle maintenance, and loved tinkering in the garage with his grandkids. He had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to try to get one over on others. Above all, he loved his family. He was a quiet man, mostly in the background, but his children and grandchildren were always the forefront of his life.
Bob is survived by his children, David (Barbara) Stevens, Darrell (Penny Chamness) Stevens, Toni (Dwight) Sullivan, Linda (Richard) Russell and Deanna Baker; brothers, Jack (Sheba) Stevens, Ronnie Stevens, and Howard (Julia) Stevens; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dian; and sister-in-law, Nancy Stevens; two grandsons and a great grandchild.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 12 from 4-8pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 13 at 11am, also at Sunset Memory Garden; entombment to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, www.ASPCA.org.
