Robert Weston Hayes, 77, of Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was born on August 24, 1937, in Ludington, Michigan, to Melvin Hayes and Esther Wesley Burns. On February 9, 1963, he married Mary Ellen (Acord) Hayes, and she survives.
Robert moved from Michigan to Indiana in 1954 and later served his country in the United States Air Force as a munitions expert during the Vietnam era from 1959 to 1979. He then worked at Haynes International in the warehouse division from 1979 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the VFW and attended Fresh Start Ministries in Kokomo.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sherry Hayes of Kokomo, Jeff Hayes of Kokomo, and Kellie McMain of Kokomo, and four grandchildren, Alyssa Riley of Indianapolis, Jacob McMain of Kokomo, Weston Hayes of Kokomo, and Nathan Hayes of Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Hayes; mother, Esther Burns; step-father, Artie Burns; and two sisters, Wanda Kinzie, and Shirley Davis.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastors Justin Markley and Mike Markley officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fresh Start Ministries.
