Richard Charles Caruso

Richard Charles Caruso, age 80, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Irene (Kuzma) Caruso. He lost his father when he was an infant, and his mother when he was a child, and was raised by his step-parents, Edgar and Charlotte Neuendorf, in Evansville, Indiana. After high school, he enlisted in the Army. After serving his country with honor, he moved to Kokomo, married Mary Louise Bondurant in August of 1971, and they had 2 children. He then attended culinary school for a short time. Afterwards, Richard began working for IU Medical Center, and then Howard Community Hospital as a respiratory therapist, while continuing to serve in the National Guard. He helped to build the Respiratory Therapy Unit, and retired after 36 years. He enjoyed cooking, shopping, and watching westerns. He loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a kind and generous man, who liked to take care of others.

Richard is survived by his son, Anthony (Tammy ) Caruso; grandchildren, Tiffany (Shaun) Jones, and Steffany Caruso; great-grandchildren, Amyah Jones, Harley Sheline, Kynley Jones, and Kylar Jones; siblings, Brenda Brown, Mike Brown, Veronica Battles, and Anita Powell; brothers, Scott (Jenni) Bondurant and Brian (Audrey) Bondurant; childhood best friend, Dennis Leinendach; as well as lots of aunts, uncles and cousins in Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Caruso; parents, Joseph Caruso and Irene Neuendorf; step-parents, Edgar and Charlotte Neuendorf; daughter, Jennifer Caruso; and brother, Harry Waddell.

A public visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902 with a funeral mass to begin at 1:00 PM. A burial with military honors will immediately follow the mass at Albright Cemetery, 3910 Albright Rd, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
