Linda “Jean” Imogene Rush, 88, passed away on Thursday morning, January 19 at Kindred Healthcare. Jean was born in Forkridge, Tennessee to Walter and Flora Allen on October 19, 1928. She married Charlie Brewer in September of 1943 and he is the father of her children. She married James Rush on November 24, 1966.
Jean owned and operated the Hillbilly Inn Café on West Markland for 16 years. She was also an active member of Christian Heritage Worship Center. Second oldest of her siblings, Jean was a caregiver for most of her life. Jean and her husband Jim retired and moved to Hawthorne, Florida for over 20 years before returning to Kokomo to be with family.
Jean is survived by her son Jerry Brewer of Kokomo; daughter Sharon Mickler of Kokomo; stepson Ronald Rush of Florida; stepdaughter Debra Medlock of Arkansas; brothers Jim Allen of Florida, Bill (Darlene) Allen of Kokomo, and Doug (Barbara) Allen of Tennessee; sisters Barbara (Bob) Howard of Kokomo and Judy (Bob) Burton of Kokomo, sister-in-law June Allen of Florida; grandchildren Lindsey(Mike), AJ(Todei), Randi (Andy), Kelly (Dominick), Stephanie (William), Timothy (Jaime), Christina (Kevin), Matthew, and Josh; 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Brewer, second husband, James Rush, daughter Joyce Phillapy, brothers Mack, Charles, and Kenneth Allen, sister Eloise Bowman, and grandchild Kelly.
A funeral service for the family and close friends will be held for Jean on Tuesday, January 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, officiated by Pastor Dennis Chapman.
