Leo Gene McDermott, 81, passed away on June 29, 2017 with family by his side. Leo was born to Don and Dorothy McDermott on July 29, 1935 in Kokomo. He served our country in the United States Army, then worked for General Motors and Electronic Data Systems for 40 years. Leo married Dorothy “Dotty” Norman on June 30, 1972. Together, they have visited every state except Hawaii. Dotty and Leo went on overseas mission trips together to the Philippines, Bolivia, England, Brazil, Moldova, and Canada. Leo did many projects for the church and was involved in the Child Evangelism Fellowship. He was on the original program committee when Bible Baptist built their current location. He also taught Sunday school, AWANA, and was a deacon of the church. Leo participated in the Christian film project “Red Shoes for Rosa” in Arizona. He was a loving husband and a good father.
Leo is survived by his wife, Dorothy McDermott; children Michael (Cathy) McDermott, Andrew (Anne) McDermott, and Sara (Randy) George; sisters Belva Myring, Donna Soltermann, and Marcia McDermott; grandchildren Adam McDermott, Rachelle (Luke) Spence; Hannah (Jared) Treadway, Aaron McDermott, Meredith (Benjamin) Green, Megan George, Fida George, Austin McDermott, and Abby (Nick) Armstrong; and great-grandchildren Margaret Green and Elliana Spence.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Dorothy McDermott; and brother Allen McDermott.
A time of fellowship will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:0 0 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 at Bible Baptist Church, 2635 S Dixon Rd, Kokomo, IN 46902. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bible Baptist Children’s Wing, and to Child Evangelism Fellowship Six County.
