Larry D. Johnson, 78, passed away at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne on Thursday evening, May 4, 2017, with his wife by his side. He was born on December 17, 1938 in Kokomo. Larry served our country in the United States Air Force for 4 years, stationed in Rapid City, South Dakota. Larry married Barbara Kerlin in December of 1974 in Greentown, and they traveled all over the United States together. Larry worked at Delco for 30 years, working as a clerk and later, a maintenance man. He was a very hardworking and dedicated man.
Larry loved his family dearly, and he was a very tender-hearted man. He was honest and always tried to do the right thing. He loved animals, especially dogs. He and Barbara loved their dogs Rowdy, Lady, Millie, and Mitzie. Larry loved to work in his yard, it was full of birds, flowers, and trees. There was always something blooming somewhere. He loved to be outside, and loved to fish. Larry was a charter member of the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Maggie Johnson( partner Shawn Ward); sister-in-law Frances Downs; nieces and nephews Beth Downs, Nancy Evans, Bronwyn Gardener, John and David Steele. Larry thought a lot of these people.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ileana (Miller) Johnson, and his sister, Judy.
Friends and family may call on Thursday May 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held on the following day also at the mortuary, Friday May 12 at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Jason Grant. Larry will be laid to rest at Crown Point Cemetery.
