Jim was born in Leechburg, Pennsylvania to Elmer L. and Mary E. (Shuster) Heckman. He graduated from Leechburg High School in 1948 and married Merlaya (Pence) Heckman June 23, 1952. He also worked at Continental Steel in the Hot Mill and Tag Department for 347 years. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and sports.
Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years; 2 sons, Douglas (Angela) Heckman of Kokomo, Indiana, and Daniel (Carrie) Heckman of Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and daughter-in-law, Deborah Heckman.
Funeral will be held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00am at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Entombment to follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
