Gregory Wayne Smith

Greg was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on May 29, 1948. His parents, Wayne and Betty (Duncan) Smith preceded him in death. He graduated from Lewis Cass High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Air Force from July 14, 1967 until July 13, 1971. Following basic training in San Antonio, TX, he was assigned to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona where he served the rest of his time. On July 20,1968 Greg married Linda (Collins) Smith. He graduated from Ball State University in 1974 with a degree in Printing Technology and also attended the building trades program at IVY Tech Kokomo.
Greg has four children, Joshua (Jamie Wiles-Smith) Smith, Deborah (David) Wilson, Shaun (Sherise) Smith and Christian Smith. He has eleven grandchildren, Liam Wiles-Smith, Evelyn Wiles-Smith, Tyler Sizemore, Cameron Sizemore, Chloe Wilson, Lincoln Wilson, Chassidy Lenn, Caeley Lenn, Caitlyn Smith, Cheyenne Smith and Chayse Smith. Gregs’ sisters and brother-in-laws are Judith (Ted) Landrum, Janet Prather, Julie (David) Bartrum, Jennifer (Nicholas) Hipp, Jaqueline (David) Prather and David (Phyllis) Collins. Greg has many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews some of whom have preceded him in death.
Greg was always a hard worker. He worked for his aunt and uncle at the Dairy Queen on S Lafountain St. in Kokomo, at JC Penney’s in Kokomo and Colonial Bakery in Muncie, IN during his time at Ball State. Greg’s dad Wayne taught him how to run a printing press. Greg worked mixing ink at Cuneo Press and World Color Press in Kokomo. Greg, his wife Linda and his parents owned and operated Smith Printing Service for over 15 years. Greg finished his full-time work career at Midwest Sheets in Tipton IN.
Greg was a “Mr. Fix-it.” He could repair and/or build almost anything. He worked in the construction field with different friends. After retirement, Greg worked part-time with his son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Jamie, at Journeys Autism Center in Mishawaka, IN.
Greg was a member of First Friends Meeting of Kokomo where he was a trustee and an active team member on many mission trips, including trips to Cuba, Belize, Kenya, Alabama, Louisiana, and Iowa.
Greg loved spending time with his family and friends, working in his garage on projects and just relaxing at home. Tools were his friends and he used them well to help anyone he could. We will miss him in every way. His gentle, sweet, helpful spirit will always be in our remembrance of him.
A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024. The service will be from 1:00-2:00 with visiting to follow until 4:00. It will be held at the Wildcat Creek Golf Course in the Knights of Columbus reception hall, 1631 Foxfire Ln, Kokomo IN.
