IN THE CARE OF
Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery
Glen A. Jordan, 90, Kokomo, passed away at 9:12 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, in the emergency room of Howard Community Regional Hospital in Kokomo. Glen was born August 22, 1922 to Charles and Nettie Mae Jordan. On February 17, 1948, he married Ruth Marie Ford who survives.
Glen served in the Navy during WWII traveling to Scotland, India and the Philippines, crossing the International Date Line. After leaving the Navy, Glen worked at Berrien Springs Hospital in Michigan where he met his one and only true love, Ruth. Together, they set a solid example of love and friendship, recently celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. Glen and Ruth later moved to Kokomo, where they shared the majority of life together.
Glen retired from the Kokomo Transmission Plant in December 1984 after 29 years. After retiring, Glen continued to “work” in the community, volunteering at any given opportunity. He was a dedicated and loyal volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and Howard Community Hospital for many years. He also enjoyed calling Bingo at the Kokomo Senior Citizen’s Center and served as treasurer at the American Cancer Society. Because of his service, Glen was named Howard County Older Hoosier on January 10, 1991. As Glen continued to volunteer, he was also presented an award by Kokomo Mayor Jim Trobaugh, officially naming April 14, 2003 as Glen Jordan Day in Kokomo, which he proudly boasted to anyone.
Glen was loved by everyone he met. He was blessed with a warm smile and kind heart. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to try his luck at scratch-offs and slot machines.
Glen is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Teckla (Richard) Willoughby, Russiaville; Tina Bolinger, Kokomo, and Beckie (Gary) Maikrzek, Houghton Lake, Michigan; sisters, Naomi Nicholson and Loudene Gerald; and his loyal four-legged son, Koko.
In addition, Glen is survived by nine grandchildren, Brian (Misty) Glandon, Syracuse, Indiana; Rob (Karen) Willoughby, Micaville, North Carolina, Angel Knecht, Hershey, Pennsylvania, Julie (Amy Bortman) Willoughby, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tristy (Todd Estes) Wheeler, Noblesville, Erica Vollmers, Houghton Lake, Michigan, Shawn (Rashelle) Bolinger, Kokomo, Jessica (Kevin) Clements, Houghton Lake, Michigan, and Jeremy (Mary) Maikrzek, Houghton Lake, Michigan; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Ron DeGraaff officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with military rites.
