Doug was born June 23, 1948, in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, to Alex and Eleanor Ednie. The family moved to Kokomo in the early 1950’s. He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1966 and briefly attended IUK.
He married Sandi (Moore) Ednie on July 31 and just recently celebrated 43 years of marriage. As best friends, they enjoyed spending time together gardening, golfing, traveling to the beach, projects around the home and time with friends and family.
Doug worked at Delco Electronics/Delphi for 41 years. He retired in 2008 after having been a supervisor of production and most recently Labor Relations supervisor in Human Resources. He was dedicated to his job and was proud of the contributions he made over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Shannon Ednie-Bassett (Chad) of Noblesville and grandsons Oliver and Elliott, and son, Brian Ednie (Echo) of Indianapolis and granddaughter Sullivan. He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was famous with them for his “Papaw toast”. He will miss spending time with them and watching them grow.
He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Meade and her son Jeff Meade, both of Kokomo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. The family is planning a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kokomo Humane Society, 713 N. Elizabeth St., Kokomo, IN 46901, the Hospital Cheer Guild, c/o St. Joseph Hospital, 1907 W. Sycamore, Kokomo, IN 46901, or Mended Hearts Indianapolis, 6458 Blakeview Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46235. Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.sunsetmemorygarden.com.
The Ednie family wishes to thank Paradigm Living Concepts and Pallative Care and the staff of Harbour Manor, Noblesville for their kindness and tender care during the latter days of his illness.
