Mitch Gibson, age 86, of Kokomo, Indiana went home to be with Jesus surrounded by family on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo. He was born on November 29, 1938 in Pressman's Home, TN, one of eleven children, to the late Rev. Hascue Gibson and Betty (Parmer) Gibson. Mitch married Susan (Fouch) Gibson on February 26, 2007, and she survives.
Mitch worked hard most of his life and started working at the tender age of 8 years old, shining shoes in downtown Kokomo. He continued his early employment working at Ray's Drive-In. Once Mitch became an adult, he joined the United States Army and served his country from 1961 until 1963. After his military service, he earned his GED in 1968 and went on to own and operate his own heating and cooling business and work for Chrysler for many years. He eventually retired from Chrysler in 2001 after 35 years of employment. He was a member of the UAW #685. Mitch never really retired. He continued to work up until the age of 86. Mitch enjoyed fishing, scratch off tickets, shuffleboard, hanging outside with a bonfire and talking to family and friends, and was an avid Colts and Purdue fan. Above all, he was concerned with taking care of everyone else.
Surviving is the love of his life, Susan; three children, Julie McMasters, Todd (Tonya) Gibson, Crystal (Blake) Fessenden; three stepchildren, Tammy Fouch, Daniel Fouch, and Amber Fouch; daughter-in-law, Jackie Gibson; grandchildren, Michael (Brandi) Gibson, Matt (Skye) Gibson, Amanda (Josh) Vandergriff, Elizabeth Hulsey, Harley (Courtney) McMasters, Glen (Kayla) McMasters, Tyler (Kaci) Gibson, Tanner Gibson, Wrigley Reed, Jon (Jhordan) Wheeler, Thomas Rainwater, Zachary Fessenden, Cory Warner, Kenzie Fouch, Abby Keel, Jewelyin (Hannah) Williams, and Coltin Williams; 23 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Ellis Gibson, Pam Holland, Terri Roesler, and Garry Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death is his parents; two sons, Mark Gibson and Michael (Rebecca) Gibson; son-in-law, Glen "Mac" McMasters; granddaughter, Heather Gibson; six siblings, Jean Reich, Bud Gibson, Donald Gibson, Homer Gibson, Larry Gibson, and Vicki Lawson; and mother of his three children, Shirley "Gibson" Harrell.
There will be a time of visitation for Mitch on Thursday, April 3 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM, the family will break from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and will have another visitation from 4:00 PM to 8:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary Main Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo. There will be visitation on Friday, April 4, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM, also at Ellers Mortuary Main Chapel. Pastor Paul Sutherland will be officiating. Burial will follow to Kokomo Memorial Park with military rites performed by the VFW Post #1152 Military Rites Team.
