Arthur Leo Skidmore, 70, passed away on April 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital. Arthur was born to Lewis and Freda Skidmore in Ava, Illinois on July 20, 1946. On April 23, 1977, he married Susan Kay (Glassburn) Skidmore. They were married for 19 years. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2016.
Art was a semi driver for 35 years. He worked for various trucking companies, including Syndicate Sales as well as Trilinear Corporation. He had participated in several truck rodeos, in which he won several awards and trophies and received recognition for safety and for Millions of Miles accident-free.
He served our country in the United States Army for 4 years. He did a tour in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He had earned the rank of sergeant and gained knowledge and experience as a Wireman during his service. He also earned his High School education at that time.
Art is survived by his daughters-Lisa J. Skidmore (fiancée Angelia Brown), Jenny R. Short (fiancée Chris Schwartz), grandchildren- Jupiter A. Short, Jalen A. Short, and Graison R. McGrath. A brother-Michael Spinner (Debbie) and a host of nieces and nephews. As well as a mother-in-law "Ma" Zonia R. Woods and very dear friends Tommy and Patricia Brown.
He is preceded in death by his beloved, Susan, his parents, several siblings, and a father-in-law Robert L. Woods.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ellers Main Street Chapel on Monday, April 24. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Tony Manis.
Arthur will be laid to rest at Marion National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. that day.
