William "Bill" Grant Johnson

William "Bill" Grant Johnson, age 91, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2021. He was at home surrounded by his family and loving wife of 67 years. He was a member of Ball Camp Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the captain of Young High School’s Football Team in 1949. Bill and Zennie settled in Hardin Valley in 1974, built their home and raised their family.

He owned and operated Johnson Plumbing and Pump Service for 50 years. After retiring you could find him at the Sims Market for breakfast, working at home in his shop or settling in with his wife to watch a baseball game. They enjoyed traveling the country, especially their trip to Alaska. They spent many years traveling to stadiums following their son-in-law and grandson's MLB careers. He loved being a papaw to his 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was truly a man loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Survived by his wife, Zennie Lee Johnson. His daughters, Jenny (Atlee) Hammaker and Lesa (Karim) Helmy. Grandchildren, Erica Hammaker (Nick) Parrish, Jenna Hammaker (Yan) Gomes, Alesa Hammaker (Kevin) Shepherd, Christa Hammaker, Anna Hammaker (Josh) Rolette, Ande Kloss (Brendan) Rasmussen, Grant (Jade) Kloss and Tarver Niceley. Great Grandchildren, Brooklyn, Greyson, Walker, Emery, Nora and William. Sister, Betty Grady. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his son, Joseph Hall Johnson, father and mother, Hugh and Bertie Johnson, brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Johnnie Johnson, sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Bill Padgett.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church, 219 S. Gallaher View Rd, Knoxville, TN 37919. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Donald Hubbard. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
