William “Bill” Hatmaker, age 88 of Knoxville, passed away at his home, February 9, 2024. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and was fiercely protective of his family. He was a Polio survivor having contracted it at the age of six. Bill worked most of his life in the magazine production industry. He started as a journeyman and worked his way up to management. He was bindery supervisor and machine operator working on well-known magazines such as Time, Sports Illustrated, Reader’s Digest, McCall’s and others. He was an avid outdoorsman whose happy place was on the lake with family and friends. Bill was also a Mason. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mae Hatmaker; brothers, Ed Hatmaker, Jr., Carl Willard Hatmaker and Kenneth Wayne Hatmaker. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Martha Gibson Hatmaker; daughter, Karen (Russ) Jones of Knoxville; son, Tim (Jamie) Hatmaker of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Alyson (Bjorn) Hanson of Lino Lakes, MN, Will Hatmaker and Emma Hatmaker of Charlotte, NC; brother, James “Jimmy” (Levenda) Hatmaker, Eagan, TN and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Smokey Mountain Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.J. Parkinson’s of Knoxville, Michael J. Fox Foundation or March of Dimes. Family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Weaver’s Chapel , 5815 Western Ave. Knoxville, TN with the service to follow at 5pm. Brent Crenshaw officiating.
