Brown, Wilbur Walter, age 84 of Knoxville. In loving memory of my Wonderful Wilbur Walter Brown, born March 14, 1927 passed away at 12:35 am Thursday Dec 22, 2011. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a WWII veteran having served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1947 as a gunner aboard the USS Negley D Cochran. He was a true patriot and was proud to raise the American Flag. He retired from Roadway Express after 20 years service and worked 13 years for Pat Salmon and Sons. Wilbur enjoyed both playing and coaching baseball, gardening and yard work.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lucille Brown, his sons Jesse, Ricky, Ronald, and Randy Brown and Richard Smiddy, and his daughters Noreen Roome, Margaret Thomas, Gail Smiddy and Sheila Warf, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was the youngest of a family of 10 and is also survived by his only remaining sister Gertie White.
Family will receive friends at McCarty Evergreen Funeral Home on Friday Dec 23 from 5-7 pm with Funeral service at 7 pm with Rev. Dwayne Whittington officiating. Family will gather Saturday at Trentville Cemetery at 10:45 for an 11:00 am graveside service.
