He was a member of Vestal United Methodist Church, graduated from Young High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. Throughout his life he worked as a draftsman for the city of East Point, Georgia, and a police officer in Douglasville, Georgia. He returned to his hometown in Knoxville as a contractor.
Wayne was preceded in death by parents, Homer G and Cora Winkler; brother, Hugh Winkler; sister, Ellen Neubert.
He is survived by daughters: Susan (Brett) Winkler and Margaret (Clint) Mannis; sister, Rosie Collins; grandchildren, Dustin Valentine, Brooke (Bradley) Maples, Chance Mannis; great-grandchildren, Lilly Maples, Kaden and Jorda. Special friend, Frank O'Mary.
