Tom grew up in Knoxville where he graduated from Knoxville High. He received his Doctorate of Pharmacology from the University of Tennessee, Memphis.
Tom was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout and also the Gold Honor Medal for Heroism Award by Boys Scouts of America. This was the first Gold Medal of Heroism every awarded to a Knoxville Scout. He was a member of the Wohali District of the Great Smoky Mountain Council of Boy Scouts for 41 year and was a Roundtable Commissioner on the Council. Tom also served as a Navy Lieutenant in WWII on the USS Lavaca.
Tom retired in 1985 as Chief Pharmacist at Ft Saunders Presbyterian Hospital. Tom served as an elder and deacon at both the Fountain City Presbyterian Church and Ft Saunders Presbyterian Church. After retirement, he joined New Providence Presbyterian Church and served in every capacity asked.
Tom and Mary Adelene Thompson were happily married for 56 years. Tom loved fishing, hunting, hiking and spending time with his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his brother, James Neil Watts; his children, Daniel (Sherry) Watts, Thomas (Teresa) Watts and Kathy Watts Dawson; his grandchildren, Kim Watts Beard, Ashlee (Ben) Watts Hutchens, and Daniel (Fondren) Taliaferro Watts; and his great grandchildren, Derek Beard, Tyler Hunt and Charlotte Watts.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, August 4, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Smokey Mountain Boy Scout Council, Habitat for Humanity or a charity of choice.
