Thomas Evans LeGrande, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, in Knoxville, TN. Born on November 14, 1951, in Joplin, MO. Tom lived a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and passion.
Tom was the cherished son of Hugh and Bernice LeGrande. He was a proud graduate of Lowell High School in Whittier, CA, where he was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by his classmates in 1969. His early adulthood was marked by honorable service in the United States Army from December 1969 to July 1970, where he earned the National Defense Medal and the Marksman Medal for his rifle skills.
Tom's professional journey began as a porter at a Southern California dealership, following in the footsteps of his father, who was a mechanic. His drive and dedication saw him rise through the ranks, and in 1992 he moved to Knoxville, TN, to take a new role at Jim Cogdill Dodge. As the head of the parts department, Tom became a vital component of the company, forging lifelong friendships and mentoring many, including his son Steven. He retired on November 14, 2016, passing the baton to the next generation and celebrating his 65th birthday surrounded by loved ones.
On May 30, 1983, Tom married the love of his life, Janet Cowan, in a beautiful ceremony in Jamaica. Their union was a testament to love and partnership, and together they built a life filled with joy and adventure. Tom was a devoted father to his sons, Thomas LeGrande Jr. and Steven LeGrande, and a doting grandfather to Kyler and Lachlan. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Tom's passion for life extended beyond his family and career. He was an avid baseball fan, rooting for the Cardinals and the Angels as a tribute to his mother. He had a deep love for cars, especially the loud ones, and could recall auto part numbers with unfailing accuracy even long after retirement. Golfing, playing his vintage records, and vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, were among his favorite pastimes. Cabo became a second home for Tom and Janet, a place where they created countless cherished memories.
Tom was known for his calm demeanor and ability to bring joy with just a few words. His infectious laugh, twinkling eyes, and unwavering memory made him a treasured friend to many. He set an example of excellence in every aspect of his life, from his professional endeavors to his personal relationships.
Tom is preceded in death by his sisters, Tricia Bonfield and Marilyn Shade, and his son, Erik LeGrande. He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet LeGrande; his sons, Thomas LeGrande Jr. and Steven LeGrande; his grandchildren, Kyler and Lachlan; his sister, Vickie Sanchez, and brother, Mark LeGrande; his brother-in-laws, Gabe Sanchez and Barry Shade, and sister-in-law, Mary LeGrande; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
In accordance with Tom's wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service, allowing his family to celebrate his life in an intimate and personal way.
