Thomas "Tom" Fredrick Haddox, age 52, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Tom had been a faithful member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church of Knoxville, TN since 2001. Tom was a graduate of Tulane University, University of Kent (England), and Vanderbilt University. He was also a Marshall Scholar and a recipient of the Paul Tulane Award and the Beinecke Award. He was a beloved and accomplished teacher of both undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Tennessee, and he was an accomplished scholar, having published three books in the area of southern studies, religion and literature, and American literature. In Tom's spare time he enjoyed playing the piano and spending time with his family.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Honor Wallace Haddox; sons, James Wallace Haddox, Anthony George Haddox, Joseph Lovelace Haddox; daughter, Elizabeth McKitrick Haddox; parents; Tom and Margaret Haddox; sister, Kathy (Matt) Jollit, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends and colleagues.
Family and friends will gather to honor Tom's legacy on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 1014 N. Central St., Knoxville, TN 37917, with a visitation from 1:00pm to 2:00pm and a funeral Mass to follow at 2:00pm. Family and friends will travel in procession following the funeral Mass to Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike, Knoxville, TN 37920 for the committal service. Service to be officiated by Father John Arthur Orr.
