Steve Cakmes passed away at his son and daughter-in-law’s home on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the age of 94. Steve is preceded in death by his son Michael Cakmes, his parents Michael and Marika Cakmes, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nicholas and Aspasia Stavros.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Marian Cakmes, of 65 years. They were married in Pittsburgh, PA. on May 24, 1953. Steve is affectionately remembered by his children Maria (Paul) Poppe of Miami, Florida and Dr. Nicholas (Tina) Cakmes of Knoxville, Tennessee, grandchildren Alexis, Steven, Michael, Paul Steven, and Joseph, and great-grandaughter, Elizabeth. Steve was born on August 6, 1924 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to parents Michael and Marika Cakmes. He served his country as a Lieutenant in the Army, making world maps for General George Patton in WWII. Steve graduated from the University of Tennessee and was head UT cheerleader. He worked as a national sales representative at Robertshaw Fulton, where he was employed for more than 30 years. Steve was a great family man and a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a social, active man who was deeply involved in St. George Greek Orthodox Church where he served for many years on the board. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and watching UT football! His family and friends will always remember him as the epitome of a gentleman and a scholar. Family will receive friends on Wednesday January 2nd from 5:00pm to 6:45pm with a Trisagion service to follow at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am on Thursday, January 3rd at St. George Greek Orthodox Church followed by graveside service at Berry Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 West Adair Drive, Knoxville, TN 37918.
