Sara Betty Henson Clark, born February 20, 1924 died October 12, 2018. Betty was the only child of Clarence and Willie Henson. She lived in North Knoxville on Fourth Avenue in early childhood and attended Little Brick Presbyterian Church. The family later moved to South Knoxville. She met Wayne Clark on a blind date while in Junior High School. Betty attended and graduated from Young High School as valedictorian with the class of 1941. She continued her education at the University of Tennessee where she received her B.S. in education. Wayne and Betty dated several years before having a Navy wedding in Astoria, Oregon on March 27, 1945. At the war's end Wayne and Betty returned to South Knoxville where she taught in Knox County School System at New Hopewell Elementary, Karns Elementary and Middle School, and Powell Elementary. She was a lifetime member of Lake Forest Presbyterian Church active as elder, Sunday school teacher, choir and hand bell choir member, church pianist, choir director, treasurer of the WOC, and was a church greeter. Betty volunteered at the Fish Pantry for thirteen years. She was an active member of A.D.K. Professional Sorority for over fifty years. Preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Willie Henson; husband, Edward Wayne Clark. She is survived by her daughters, Candy McCoy and husband Gary "Lance" McCoy of Winston Salem, NC; and Christie Irvin and husband Ed; grandchildren, Wendy Britton (Phil), Clark Witherow (Gena), Christopher Witherow (Jennifer), Will Witherow (Amanda), Megan Hamilton (Sevrin), Marty Irvin and Mandy Irvin; great-grandchildren, Kemper and Kieryn Lane; Jack Witherow; Kasey, Dyllan, Paige and Kallie Witherow; Brynlee Witherow; Anaya, Deacon, and Colter Hamilton; and Indigo Hall. Faithful four legged companion, Koda. The family would like to thank Carol Bush for her faithful companionship. Betty was a beloved wife of 52 years, a devoted mother and Nannie extraordinaire, baker of cherry pies and a teacher to all. Gardening was her passion, be it flowers or vegetables that she enjoyed sharing with others. She waited expectantly for spring through the dark of winter. To her there was know greater joy than planting a seed to watch it grow. She always felt close to heaven when in her hilltop garden.
