Samuel Douglas Henry was born March 10, 1954 and died unexpectedly October 5, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma Francis Henry and James Earl Henry. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Jim Henry (Liz), and sister Linda Baugher (Jerry) and several nieces and nephews.
Sam was a 1972 graduate of Bearden High School where he played football. He was an avid UT Vol fan and Atlanta Braves fan. Sam also enjoyed golfing until his illness made it impossible to play. He was a devoted member of Bearden United Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member of his Pathfinders Sunday School class.
Sam was employed as an office supply salesman until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. For the last 18 years, Sam suffered from the effects of MS and while it slowly hampered his ability to perform physical tasks, it never dampened his spirit. He was always friendly and positive with those around him. The family would like to give special thanks to Patty Roberts and Nancy Mitchell who helped him for years with his daily activities and, more recently, Michael Burriss who did the same.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life service will both be held Saturday, October 13, in the sanctuary of Bearden United Methodist Church, 4407 Sutherland Ave., Knoxville, Tn. Family will receive friends from 1-2pm with the service to follow @ 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Bearden United Methodist Church
