Cameron, Ruth, 99, of Seminole, FL (Powell, TN) passed away on Monday, Dec 22, 2014. Born on Aug 21, 1915 in her great-grandfather’s log cabin that was built in 1835 on Sugarloaf Mountain in Sevierville Co, TN to Lena and Albert Cruze. She married Alvin Taft Cameron in Feb 1933 in Knoxville, TN. And together they raised their only child, a daughter, Wawanna Cameron (Widoff). Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin and 4 of her 5 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her brother, Ray, her daughter, her son-in-law “Duke” Widoff and her five grandchildren: Valanna, Benjamin, Kristin, Melanie and Cameron and 3 great-grandchildren. Ruth worked in textiles from the age of 14, where she worked for the next 51 years before retiring. In 1970, Ruth received her Real Estate license and worked in real estate for 10 years before moving to Florida. Ruth was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 65 years and held the highest office in the state of Tennessee as the Worthy Grand Matron in 1969. She then went on to become the Chairman of the Welfare Committee of the General Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star – Worldwide Office. At the age of 93, Ruth held her last position with the Eastern Star, that of the Worthy Matron for the Pinellas Park Chapter (Florida), the oldest person to hold that position. In addition, Ruth was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as the 7th great-granddaughter of Capt Philip Null who crossed the Delaware River with Gen. George Washington. Additionally, Ruth was a member of the Ladies of Oriental Shrine of North America where she worked tirelessly to help raise money for the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. She was a member of the Second United Methodist Church for 82 years. For all her outstanding achievements, Governors of three states bestowed on her the honor of Colonel. Ruth was much beloved and a great inspiration to many people. The family will receive friends on Saturday January 3, 2015 from 1-3 PM at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home, with the funeral service at 3:00 PM.
